Wind Project Models

Every well-designed wind power project model should benefit landowners and the local economy, produce clean energy, and add to the growing level of local support for renewable energy. Not all wind development models, however, benefit the local economy equally. In a study done at the University of Minnesota-Morris, researchers found that a project following a community-based model could generate as much as five times more local income and create three times as many local jobs as a traditional wind development.
Take a quick look at the following overviews of community- and non-community-based wind energy development to see the difference.

Competitions Wind Energy Models:

Competition's “Fixed Payment” Model
Many wind project developers utilize this fixed payment model without any long-term ownership involved. The developer is the primary stakeholder who enters into a lease or easement contract with the land owner for a set period of time, usually twenty years. Although the landowners receive turbine lease payments that are fixed and predictable, this is not what we consider to be true tribal community ownership. Profits are not shared and property owners have limited influence over the project.

Competition's Royalty Leasing:
Many large wind project developers pay landowners a percentage or royalty payment to landowners for their wind project. The landowners enter into a lease or easement agreement in exchange for a small percentage of the revenue. Landowners don't receive an actual share in the profits, instead the developer and institutional investor retains the profits. We do not consider this model to be a true tribal community ownership.

Native Renewables Tribal Community Wind Energy Model:
We form an actual legal business partnership with tribe and tribal members. We create a joint ownership structure for each wind project with the tribe and tribal landowners as a partner. The tribe and tribal landowners have an opportunity to influence the project and have their voices heard. The tribal community ultimately receives a large portion of the profits.

Why Us:
Native Renewables has a team of economists, tribal environmental permitting consultants, tribal wind energy consultants, tribal attorneys, lobbyists, accountants and former Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) officials coordinating the development of our tribal wind projects.  With our team of tribal development experts, Native Renewables, LLC has developed a business model that can navigate the development and execution of Power Purchase Agreements, Interconnection Studies, Environmental Permitting, Transmission Agreements, and Financing.

This tribal community model, that no other developer can offer, is something that will work both politically and economically for the benefit of the tribal leadership and tribal membership since all parties get ownership in the project!

Proposal:
Native Renewables is proposing to joint venture with Native American Tribes in implementing our tribal community wind energy model for the economic benefit of the tribe, districts, tribal membership and the local tribal community.  We are offering our expertise in wind energy development, operations, and financing to form a legal joint ownership structure where the Tribal voice is heard and receives a large portion of the profits.

We further propose to utilize our current analysis of Tribes to present detailed financial projections, transmission capacities, environmental reviews, and project development milestones to the proper Tribal political and business channels. These presentations are designed to hear the needs, wants, expectations and questions from tribal leadership and membership.  Upon conclusion of our presentations we will present a legal arrangement to further the development.
